Review: Chocolate Chunk Luna Bar

admin · February 10, 2011 · 1 Comment

I received a lovely package the other day from the good folks at Luna Bar. It was filled with 4 new flavors of the bars-2 of the regular, 2 of their protein bars. Yesterday, I tore into my first one: the chocolate chunk bar.

I like Luna Bars for a couple different reasons. First of all, I like that their made for women. Women have a harder time getting enough calcium, folic acid, and iron into their diets. So, I like that there’s a snack bar that contains all the nutrients we need. Secondly, I like that Luna Bars have ingredients that I’m familiar with and aren’t insanely caloric. There are so many different types of bars out there. I try to stay away from the bars with ingredient lists that I can’t understand. There are a lot of “protein” and “natural” bars out there that are made of who knows what and also pack in too many calories for a snack. I understand if you’re eating a bar as a meal replacement, but I would never do that. A bar, no matter how many calories, will never fill me up. So, as far as I’m concerned, I want them as a snack. Therefore, their calorie content should reflect that of a snack.

nutrition stats

I also enjoy Luna Bars because they aren’t insanely expensive. All these bars are on the expensive side…but compared to some others that I also enjoy, these are on the cheaper side which I appreciate (and so does my husband).

On to the Chocolate Chunk. Before even biting into it, it looked delicious. It definitely delivers on the “chocolate chunks” in the title.

chunky goodness

I liked that this bar was soft enough to bite into. I’ve bought boxes of bars before (from a brand that will remain nameless) and they were supposed to be soft…but were scary hard. I ended up throwing the box away because they should never be that hard!

This was the perfect amount of chewiness mixed with crunchy. I like the rice puffs that are in the bar, they provide some good crunch.

This Luna Bar flavor is almost 100% organic (70% to be exact), for those of you who try to stick to organic food. Not too shabby.

Overall, I liked this flavor. Obviously, my favorite part was the huge chocolate chunks in it. So, if you like “desserty” bar flavors, I’m sure you’d like this one.

Next up: chocolate dipped coconut! I’m so excited to try that flavor! I will update you as soon as I try it.

No bulgar for breakfast this morning. I wanted to eat something light since I’m headed out for a 6 mile run today. I made up some more Schweddy Balls last night so I had one of them this morning.

nom nom

I love these things…they literally taste like peanut butter cookies.

I washed those babies down with a bowl of Special K cinnamon and pecans. Not a bad breakfast…

I’m off for a 6 miler! Happy Thursday (almost Friday)!

LUNA Bars needs you to advertise their products.
