Originally, I wanted to go for a long run today. I knew that wasn’t going to happen since I kept putting it off. Finally, I got my buns in gear and headed outside for a run. I wish I was feelin’ it more-the weather today was perfect for running: a sunny 55 degrees. I set my Nike Plus for 40 minutes and didn’t look back….actually I did..several times…..just wasn’t into it today. Let’s just say I was a little too excited when I heard “workout complete.”
Today’s Stats:
- Time: 40 minutes
- Distance: 4.75
- Pace: 8:27 min/sec
- Calories: 411
Before heading out for my run, I did the plank 3 times….a minute each time.
Maybe today’s run wasn’t so great because I was hungry? I went out around 2 and at that point hadn’t eaten lunch. Either way, I should probably start trying to run earlier in the day. The sun is pretty intense around 2 too (I know it’s winter…but still!) so I’m sure the earlier the better.
After my mediocre run I mixed up a shake. I wanted to use some Green SuperFood but didn’t have any frozen bananas, so I used frozen strawberries instead. Here was the rest of the mix:
- scoop of Chocolate Green SuperFood
- frozen strawberries
- half a banana
- scoop of peanut butter
- chocolate soy milk
- water
I haven’t tried the SuperFood before with frozen strawberries…so this was sort of an experiment.
The smoothie was less than stellar. It was almost bitter tasting….I think the combo of the strawberries and Green powder was not the greatest. I’ll definitely stick to the frozen banana, pb, and Green SuperFood mix-that works well.
I drank the smoothie down anyway! Then chased it with some remaining Kombucha that I had.
I have to say….I much prefer the flavored Kombucha’s over the “numbered” ones. The one I had today is a little too funktastic…it basically tastes like vinegar. Throw that in with the floating microorganisms and you’ve got yourself one grossed out consumer. Maybe it was this particular “number.” It does list ginger as one of the ingredients…I don’t love ginger….I’ll try another one and keep you posted!
For my “real” lunch, I boiled a couple eggs and heated up some leftover polenta. I used to boil eggs all the time, but started to find them somewhat irritating. They would either explode in the water or be impossible to peal. Today, I looked up “how to boil an egg.” Something I thought should be extremely easy. This is what I found:
- Place eggs in saucepan and cover with cool water. Cover an inch over the eggs
- Cook over medium heat…until water starts to boil
- Reduce heat to low
- Simmer for 10 minutes
I swear I did all of this! I cracked open one egg, ran cool water over it, and began to peel. This is how it turned out:
Mmmmm how delicious and not deformed does this egg look?
I peeled one of the eggs and was left with only the yolk. Totally unsuccessful.
So my egg boiling was a disaster. I put what was left of the eggs in with the polenta and mixed it all up. Even with the lack of egg whites (which is ironic-if anything I’d be going for lack of yolk) it tasted pretty good. I washed this down with a cup of hot tea.
I picked up a new tea yesterday- Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride. It’s pretty good! Smells great!
Those were my adventures for the afternoon. I have a pretty tasty dinner planned tonight! 🙂

I love that tea! And I can only do green smoothies if banana is in the mix. Nothing seems to cut the green taste down quite like bananas do.

I actually love that Kombucha 😉
