I decided to brave the cold today (literally, the cold I have. In ya face cold!) and go for a short run. I’m no doctor…so I’m not sure running while sick is a great idea…but I’m also not sure it’s a terrible idea…so I guess I’ll find out if I end up in the hospital or not. For some reason, I feel behind on marathon training. Technically, I am….2 days behind which I realize is nothing...but it’s still nagging at me.
So, I headed to the gym to run on the treadmill. My body felt okay…but I swear I was meeting outside challenges about every five minutes. Maybe I should have taken that as a sign…
First, my lovely Nike plus wasn’t working. This has been happening more and more lately which is super irritating. Luckily, at this point, I can guesstimate the mileage and calories pretty well. But annoying nonetheless.
Next, I paused the treadmill to get some water…. when I came back, it had stopped completely erasing the time and distance I had ran up until that point. Slowly getting more annoyed…but not giving up!
Once I got going again…about 15 minutes through the run….I accidentally ripped the emergency stop out of the treadmill, thus stopping it completely. Again. Does this happen to anyone else? Isn’t it the worst? I realize it’s my own fault, but still?!
I started running again….with the time starting over of course. At this point, I was estimating how long I had actually run since I had already stopped twice. Then, I knocked the emergency stop out…AGAIN! There was someone else on the elliptical next to me probably very amused. Me on the other hand…not so amused. I honestly irritate myself sometimes. It’s amazing I can make it through the day.
Finally, I finished the run. Here were my stats (give or take…):
- Distance: 3 miles
- Time: 25:36
- Pace: 8:30
- Calories: 260
I was tempted to run a full 30 minutes….but the training schedule said 3 miles…and since I’m a little sick, I decided not to push it.
My post-run “snack” was more of a post-run”lunch.” I had a couple clementines…
I love clementines! I literally eat like….6 in a day. It’s sort of a problem. My stomach gets very angry with me when I do that.
I’m also hoping the clementines will load me up with Vitamin C which will help fight off this cold. Although it’s possible you’re supposed to load up on Vit. C before getting sick…hmm. Either way, they’re delicious!
I also had a bowl of red quinoa with sauteed carrots, mushrooms, red peppers, tofu, and sliced almonds.
Such a nutritious meal!!! No cold can withstand all these vitamins and minerals!!
1 day of marathon training done!! Only 3 1/2 more months to go!!
One more thing, in case anyone wants to get me an early birthday present…..maybe a Valentine’s day gift…..or Cinco de Mayo present….this would be great.
A shot of tequila….and that lock! Perfection!

How many clementines did you eat after your run? What race are you going to run in? I ran in my first Half Marathon this year and am looking forward to my next race. http://ashandlewplus2.com/2010/10/11/music-city-half-2010/
Have a great day.
