Top of the Muffin…TO YOU!

admin · January 10, 2011 · Leave a Comment

I’m still feeling under the weather so I can tell today will not be as productive as I had hoped. My ears are so plugged up I can barely hear myself think (not that my thoughts are really worth hearing). I’m really looking forward to training for this marathon-this cold has come at a bad time!

Anyway, since I’ve been pretty lazy in the kitchen the past few days, I wanted to share a pretty delicious, easy snack I just feasted upon. First up-vanilla flavored Chobani greek yogurt. I added some pumpkin butter to it and it was awesome! The vanilla and pumpkin flavors are perfect together.

Greek yogurt is a really great snack. Usually, I just eat the plain, nonfat version because there is little to no sugar. My last trip to the store I picked up a few flavored yogurts because, let’s face it, they taste way better! Here’s the nutrition facts on the plain, nonfat greek Chobani yogurt (6oz):

  • 100 calories
  • 0 fat
  • 7g of sugar
  • 18 grams of protein

Compared to the vanilla flavored:

  • 120 calories
  • 0 fat
  • 13 grams of sugar
  • 16 grams of protein

As you can see, the sugar goes up, protein comes down. I don’t love that statistic, but the taste is just so much better! Usually with the plain version, I add fruit, nuts, or honey…so the calorie content always goes up and probably the sugar as well.

Anyway, today I chose vanilla!

Along with the yogurt, I had a delicious VitaTop Velvety Chocolate muffin top. These are slowly becoming my favorite snack/dessert ever. They taste like brownies, I love them! They aren’t too bad for ya either. Here are the VitaTop stats (1 top):

  • 90 calories
  • 2 gram of fat
  • 1 gram saturated fat
  • 9 grams of fiber
  • 0 gram of sugar
  • 4 grams of protein

I don’t love the 1 gram of saturated fat…but overall, it’s not too bad. I warmed it up in the microwave for about 25 seconds then slathered some peanut butter on top (I’m slowly learning you can put peanut butter on anything! So versatile.).

I could eat about 20 more of those VitaTops, but I’ll refrain…hopefully. I wonder if the people at Vitalicious got the VitaTop idea from Elaine on Seinfeld? Top of the muffin….TO YOU!!!
