11 Mile Long Run

admin · February 7, 2011 · 3 Comments

I realize today is Monday and I haven’t had a long run marathon update from the weekend…that’s because there was no long run. There was actually no running at all. Saturday was still a bit icy here so I thought I’d try my long run on Sunday. Unfortunately, after work Sunday, there was a little event going on in the country called the Super Bowl (don’t know if you’ve heard about this…). So, obviously, I couldn’t be anti-social and go run during the game. Instead, I watched the game while stuffing my face with food and drinking wine. Basically the opposite of running.

Today was the day, no more excuses! The weather is back to normal (whatever that means around here…) and the ice was gone. I went out to White Rock Lake with my Nike Plus and my heart rate monitor on. I was curious to see what the differences would be between the two.

The run wasn’t bad. It was pretty windy which gets old after a while, but the sun was out so I can’t complain. I made it through feeling pretty tired at the end, but glad to get it over with. Here were my stats for today:

Marathon Training: Week 4 Long Run

  • Distance: 11.05 miles
  • Time: 1 hour 28 minutes
  • Pace: 8:00 min/sec mile
  • Calories- Here’s where it gets interesting…. According to my Nike Plus, I burned 956 calories which sounds great! But, my heart rate monitor said I burned about 700. I’m going to go with the heart rate monitor on this one just because it actually measures my heart rate during the entire run. I think that’s more accurate than calculating calories just based off of how many times my foot hits the ground. Or maybe I should average the 2? Nah, I’ll stick with the heart rate monitor!

versus of the pod:

too good to be true...

Not only was it nice to track my calories, but also my heart rate. On average, my heart rate was at 155 beats per minute with a maximum of 185. I think that’s pretty good. 185 might be a little high but that was the highest it got to today so I’m not too concerned.

After my run, I had a lunch of champions: bratwurst and a spinach salad with half an apple, avocado, and seaweed.

I sliced up the rest of the apple and ate it with some maple hummus I made the other day.

I am a big fan of this stuff. It has the consistency of hummus but tastes like a dessert. It sounds strange but it really works I promise.

Good stuff!

I’m off to the store to stock up on goodies for the week! I really want to try bulgar or barley…we’ll see if the stores I hit have those or not. Hope you’re not having a “case of the Monday’s” today!

Maple hummus sounds so good!! I’ve been eating maple almond butter lately and can’t get enough!
I’d stick with the calorie burn that your heart rate monitor says as well! It is usually much more accurate.

I need to made some sweet hummus – I think I’d love it! Awesome run yesterday. You’re super speedy! I’m incorporating a lot of speedwork into my training this time around and notice I’m getting faster…but still working on it. ๐Ÿ™‚
