Trying New Things

admin · February 18, 2011 · 1 Comment

My day yesterday was filled with trying new things By “things” I mean food. First up: new oatmeal mix. Believe it or not, I did NOT add peanut butter to my oatmeal. It’s been a while since I’ve left peanut butter out of anything especially my morning oatmeal.

I picked up some delicious blackberries that were on sale at the grocery store and decided to throw those babies in. Besides blackberries, I also had a half a banana, 2 egg whites, some shredded coconut, chia seeds and little honey.

For a midday snack, I tried the limited edition Nature’s Path granola, Love Crunch.

It has dried strawberries, dried raspberries, dark chocolate chunks, coconut and flax granola. How could I resist such a combo? Especially since it’s a limited edition, I obviously had to try it.

I tried it on some plain nonfat greek yogurt for an afternoon snack.

big chocolate chunk!

I think this granola is pretty good. I’m sure mostly because there are chunks of chocolate in it…but not too many! I definitely keep in mind that in general, granola is pretty high in sugar and calories so I measured out the granola to make sure I was within the serving size.

Pretty tasty stuff!

Another snack I tried yesterday was the new blueberry flavor of Lara Bars. I was so excited to find out there was a Whole Foods near me that started carrying it!

I am a big fan of this flavor! I think because (to me) it has the same texture as a fig newton (if that makes sense..). The blueberries make it a little chewier than most Lara Bars.

Check out the ingredients list:

That’s why I love Lara Bars, I know exactly what’s in them!

On to my last treat of the day:  a Vitatop dessert.

I froze one banana yesterday and served a Deep Chocolate Vitatop along with it. It was almost like a replacement for ice cream (banana) and a brownie (Vitatop).

mm chocolatey

I love Vitatops. They’re perfect when you’re craving something sweet (like a brownie). They’re only 100 calories and are packed with fiber and protein! Not a bad dessert…or snack.

It was a good day with lots of new treats!

Today I took the day off of working out/running. I started feeling sick last night and feel worse today. I’m supposed to run 9 miles tomorrow but I’m not sure that’s going to happen. Hopefully Saturday…?

Hope you all had a great Thursday. You know what that means? It’s almost Friday!

Nature’s Path sent me some of their Love Crunch and I still haven’t tried it! It’s in the freezer. So random. I’ll have to try it soon for a chocolate fix. 🙂 I loved the blueberry muffin Larabar, too. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
