The countdown has begun! 12 days until Christmas day. December always flies by doesn’t it? So, the holiday’s are the holiday’s and we love them for that. But, as we all know that usually consists of lots of junk food and drinks. There’s certainly nothing wrong with enjoying them because they do come once a year after all, but the important thing is to try and incorporate some healthy choices into your day.
So, we start with day 12! I know the original song calls for 12 of something (12 drummer’s drumming to be exact), but the original song also starts with day 1 so clearly I’m not following that format correctly. I am going to attempt to play off that so bear with me!
Speaking of drummer’s, my least favorite Christmas song is Little Drummer Boy. Thumbs down.
On the 12th day of Christmas (or on Wednesday the 14th, whichever you prefer), you gave to yourself…..at least 12 minutes of activity a day!
This is somewhat tough especially if you live in a place similar to the North Pole (and don’t belong to a gym). But you can still make it happen! I went for a run yesterday and it was around 30 degrees and saw a decent amount of people outside walking. I’m not saying go for a run, but even just a walk outside will make a world of a difference.
This is a great time to grab some friends or family members and get outside! It’s obviously the time of year for quality time with the fam, so what better way than dragging them outdoors to suffer with you? Good for everyone!
If you do belong to a gym, try new classes! Winter is the time when we lived in Chicago where I really got into TurboKick classes. I’m so glad I got myself to go because they were really challenging and a lot of fun. When I’m home, I’m planning on going to some yoga classes with my best friend who’s a yoga instructor. It’s the perfect time to try new classes that intimidate you when you’re alone; grab a friend so you’ll have a partner in crime. Or at least you won’t feel so silly…your friend looks equally as awesome as you while Zumbaing the night away.

If you’re like me and don’t belong to a gym, order a fitness DVD. I was never really into DVD’s before trying Ripped in 30. I would buy them every now and then, try them once, and then forget about them. I always shrugged them off like they were too easy (I have no idea why…I’m thinkin’ I was being lazy and needed an excuse) but this last DVD I did has me rethinking exercise DVD’s.
There’s a reason why Jillina’s DVD are the top selling fitness DVD’s on Amazon: she will bring the pain. I think she just came out with a new one too so I might have to check it out.
For me, activity is a lifesaver over the holidays. I definitely like to indulge so staying active helps me feel somewhat balanced. I have to admit, it’s easy to get outside in Arizona where the temperatures are in the 60’s. Pretty much perfect weather!
But it can still be hard since there are loads of distractions at home. Always good distractions..but distractions nonetheless.
So that’s day 12: 12 minutes of activity over the holidays! Have fun with it…it is the holiday’s after all. 🙂
Are you pretty good about exercises over the holidays or does it take a backseat?

SUCH a great idea – not only will it keep you active during the holidays, but chances are – after those 12 mins are up, you’re bound to want to keep going! Great post

I exercise every day, no matter what time of year!
