Due to the weather in Dallas, I postponed my 6 mile run yesterday to today. I basically did not leave the apartment yesterday until I absolutely had to for work. Today, I actually got my cold butt to the gym and completed the 6 miles. Yes, on the treadmill. A whole hour on the treadmill…just you and your thoughts running in place listening to the same songs over and over. Always a great time (laying on the sarcasm pretty thick).
But, ya gotta do what you gotta do. It’s just a little too icy outside to even attempt to run. I’m pretty sure I’d end up in a physical therapy clinic if I tried that (which is where I’d like to end up, just not as a patient).
According to the treadmill stats (which I don’t trust at all) here were today’s stats:
Marathon Training: Week 4
- Distance: 6.02 miles- I’m pretty confident it was more like 7 miles, assuming I ran at the pace I usually do. But just in case, we’ll assume it was 6.
- Time: 62 minutes
- Pace: 8:20 min/sec. Again, I sort of assume it was faster….
- Calories: 597. I’m sure it was much lower…probably more like 530 and that’s if I actually ran 7 miles. If not, it could have been even less.
It was a pretty good run considering it was on a treadmill. I’m hoping the weather will warm up in the next few days since my long run this weekend is 11 miles. That could be rough on a treadmill. I did 12 miles once in Chicago on the treadmill….it was pretty brutal…I’d like to avoid that if I could.
In other news, I’ve been thinking about starting a food journal. At the end of the day, I look back at all the food I ate and never think it’s that bad. But then I start to rememeber all the little snacks that I sneak in. I’m a big snacker and I know those little bites of pretzels, a brownie here and there, or a few bites of granola add up. I know that food journals are highly recommended for people trying to lose weight. I think they’d also be helpful for those who are unsure about how many calories they consume. People like me.
I used to use a Live Strong app on my Iphone that was essentially a calorie counter. You typed in all the foods that you ate and it gave you an estimate on how many calories they were. It actually was helpful, when I inputed all the information. That was the issue. I’d forget to input the food I ate and then by the end of the day, just forget the whole thing.
I’ve heard there are online programs that help you count calories and figure out the amount you’re ingesting daily. I might start using one of those…. any recommendations on one? I’ll keep you posted on the progress.
My ” food journal” for today isn’t too exciting, except for my breakfast. I toasted up two wheat waffles and then added all sorts of goodies.
I spread pumpkin butter on one waffle and peanut butter on the other. Then, I sprinkled a little bit of cocoa powder on both waffles and shredded coconut (I’ve really been enjoying shredded coconut these days). Then I topped both waffles with half a banana. Pretty good! The coconut is something a little different and it tastes great! I can’t wait to use it in my oatmeal…
I also had one of nature’s candy: a medjool date!
They really do taste as good as candy, I love dates!
Do you keep a food journal? If so, how? Stay warm out there!
Katie says
Alice agrees with you about those dates — the other day, I offered her a cookie, and she said, “NO.” and demanded a date instead.
