Ahhh Crossfit…you get me every time.
I found out this morning that I had to work tonight so suddenly, my big plans for the day changed (my big, really cool plans that I had…ha!). I still had time to fit in a workout but didn’t want to go run right in the middle of the day (turns out the sun is typically out in full force around noon..ya, not a good running time). When I need a good, hard workout but don’t have all day, I turn to CrossFit. They’re usually short and sweet but ultra difficult.
I warmed up today with 5 minutes on the elliptical. I haven’t been on an elliptical in a long time…which was pretty obvious when I hopped on it today. It’s amazing how different forms of cardio are challenging in their own ways. At this point, running for me is easiest. But throw me in a pool or on a bike and I’d be huffing and puffing like crazy! Especially swimming, what a great workout!!
Here was the workout I performed after my warmup:
- 75 squats
- 50 lat pulldowns using 50lb. weights. The actual CrossFit has pull ups in this spot not lat pulldowns. First of all, I don’t have any pull up bar in the gym at my place. Secondly, 50 pull ups? That’s hilarious. Those CrossFit guys have such a great sense of humor….
- 20 triceps dips- I did these on a bench. The CrossFit calls for dips on rings….like gymnastic rings. Another hilarious joke by those CrossFitting geniuses. Who has gymnastic rings in their gym anyway?
- 50 squats
- 35 lat pull downs
- 15 dips
- 25 squats
- 20 lat pull downs
- 10 dips
This was a pretty good workout. It actually wasn’t as hard as some CrossFit’s have been, but I know I’ll feel it (especially my lats) tomorrow.
Yesterday’s workout was similar in that it was short and sweet. I did sprints! I used to do sprints a lot more while living in Chicago. I can definitely feel a huge difference between running springs versus long runs. It feels good to mix it up a little. It’s important when training for a race to incorporate different speeds in your runs as well as inclines like hill runs. This was yesterday’s workout:
- 10 sprints 100 meters each
Overall, it ended up being a little over a mile of sprints. It was pretty tough!
If you ever need a short, hard workout, check out CrossFit! They’re not always doable, but you can search through and pick and choose a workout. Happy Monday!

some of them you can do without a gym for example i did one that was something like 10 situps, pushups, tricep pushups, squats-10 times. so i did that in my apartment. there are other ones though that do require some gym stuff. they have all the workouts archived so you can kinda search through them, that’s what i do. they’re always hard, good workouts!

I love these short and fast workouts! Sometimes there isn’t enough time for anything else. I need to reply to your email! I’ve been away from my laptop all day. Eeek! I’ll email tonight after yoga. ๐
