My diet lately hasn’t been too bad. I’m trying to cut down on carbs so it hasn’t been easy (I work at a bakery!!! It’s pretty much hell). Some days are easier than others. Last week, I did pretty good until the weekend rolled around. I don’t know why, I guess it’s mental, but the weekend just signals indulgence in my brain. Although I did “okay” (relative to other weekends) it definitely could have been better. Why, when the weekend rolls around, does healthy eating fly out the window? Does this happen to anyone else?
I don’t really understand it, but I guess I just need to remind myself that I am in control of what I eat. Not the weekend. You can’t boss me around weekend..not anymore!
Anyway, I’ve been doing pretty well overall. Since it’s still the beginning of the week, I guess more for me because my work schedules weird, I feel like I need a kickstart to keep this week healthy. I pretty much do the same things every week: go to work, workout (which usually involves weights, plyometrics, etc.), other random stuff. Since my workouts are kind of similar each week, I’m heading to yoga today!
I like yoga, it’s just never a top pick for me because I like high intensity workouts, or maybe it’s because I’m a huge embarrassing failure (anybody remember that in Tommy Boy? Classic film) at yoga. No matter how bad I am, I will say ย yoga always makes me feel good. Every time I leave a yoga class, I want to eat better, I think more about the choices I make and how they will effect my body. For some reason, it’s not as hard, the healthier choices seem more natural. This always happens after yoga-not running or weight lifting, but yoga.
I don’t know, but I know I can count on that feeling so I’m headed to yoga today to clear my mind and in a way, clear my body. I’ll let you know how I feel afterwards!
Are there any workouts or classes that keep you motivated to eat right? Are the weekends tough for you too?

Running helps me eat better because I feel so awful when I run and eat poorly.
I’m definitely not as healthy or motivated to workout on the weekends. Something about weekend mornings screams pajamas, waffles and being lazy!

Part of my weekend issues are that weekends = eating out = glass of wine = lower self-control. It’s a big domino effect for me! Eating is also much more social on the weekend.
And I agree about yoga – it always makes me feel the best afterwards! Enjoy your class!

I used to be the same way about the weekends. It may sound weird but it helped me to just chill out and focus on eating healthier overall…so if I wanted chocolate on Wednesday and not Saturday, then dammit, I’m gonna have it on Wednesday and not on Saturday. I used to be the same about yoga, too, but once I found a good teacher it all changed. It’s not boring anymore! LOL

I know weekends are a tough time for a lot of people with eating/drinking. Since I work on the weekends, I don’t really have a “weekend” – ha. So it’s pretty easy for me to consistently plan and eat healthy throughout the week…which always includes indulgences. ๐

p.s. Have a great time at yoga!

Running definitely makes me want to eat right because I feel like I can’t move if I’m eating junk food… I’m trying to make running as easy as possible for myself! ๐
I like working out on weekends because I can sleep in a bit, get a workout in, then start my day… no rushing! But I definitely indulge on the weekends… like the pint of Ben and Jerry purchased last weekend that I absolutely needed! ๐ Moderation right?

I actually love weekend workouts because they can be more varied and other folks , like the hubby, can join me. I usually do yoga and a run most days. Yoga really does make me feel good, but sometimes the motivation is hard to get to! Another plug for http://www.yoga today.com free and excellent yoga!

I always have that battle with the weekends! I think its a good thing though..obviously not to throw it all away but it makes you feel like you don’t have to be in control all the time and then by Monday, you are ready to get back on your schedule again. I am sure even doing Yoga feels that way for your workouts. You can relax and do yoga and then feel rejuvinated for your more high intensity workout the following day. We don’t always have to have tight control over our eating but like you said..we don’t want to just dive into the snacks either. You are not alone ๐
