I received an email yesterday with the subject line stating, “Do you have the guts?” The email came from my brother in law and was referring to a CrossFit from a couple of days ago. When I saw these provoking words…immediately I decided, “Yes! Of course I have the guts.” Then I read the CrossFit.
5 Rounds for time:
- 22 kettle-bell swings
- 22 box jumps
- run 400 meters
- 22 burpees
- 22 wall balls
Well, brother-in-law-of-mine-that-shall-remain-nameless (you know who you are…and so does everyone else), turns out, I do have the guts. The question is, do I have the desire, the drive, and overall physical ability to complete this CrossFit. I was up for the challenge…here is what I accomplished:
5 Rounds:
- 22 swings using a 20 pound weight. I held the weight (just one weight, I’m not quite ready for 2) in both hands. We don’t have kettle-bells.
- 22 box jumps. I jumped onto the bench in our weight room.
- run 400 meters. I ran at around a 7:20 pace and overall (all 5 rounds) burned around 135 calories.
- 22 burpees. Okay, so 110 burpees is ridiculously hard!! I busted these bad boys out though. I can’t say I didn’t take breaks, because I did. I tried to shoot for 11 in a row, break, then 11 more. These are just rough.
- 22 wall balls. The original CrossFit says to do these with a 20 pound medicine ball. Our weight room only has a ten pound one, so ten it was! It was definitely challenging enough.
I completed all 5 rounds!! The last two were super hard…but I pushed through. I finished the whole thing in about an hour. Just to compare, the record on CrossFit was 30 minutes. Who are these freaks of nature that can do this in 30 minutes? Oh, and with way more weight. I guess I’ll never know.
For a post workout snack, I had some greek yogurt with oats and banana. I also did something a little interesting and delicious with an apple. I was cutting it up and thought, “I wonder how it would taste if microwaved a little….with some cinnamon…and peanut butter…mmm.”
So I put the cut up apple in the microwave for about 1 minute. When it was done, it tasted great. It was nice, warm, and soft. It reminded me a little of apple pie (minus pie crust, sugar, and the other delicious ingredients). I topped it with a dash of cinnamon and peanut butter.
This was so good!
This was the perfect winter alternative to sliced apples and peanut butter. I will definitely be making this more often!!
There you have it. If you’re not embarrassed by crying at the gym, I recommend that CrossFit workout. It will push and challenge you to your limits. Just think of the delicious, hot apples you can reward yourself with when you get home! 🙂
