Space at the Gym

admin · May 3, 2012 · 3 Comments

I was in a total fog yesterday hence the no post. After getting back from Phoenix, I’ve just been wiped out. I blame pregnancy (it’s so easy to blame everything on this it’s great!). I worked yesterday for a couple hours then just felt nonfunctional. I meant to take a nap for 45 minutes and ended up sleeping for 2 hours! Oops. I hate taking super long naps like that because I feel so unproductive but it felt pretty darn good.

After my epic nap, I was still feeling a little foggy and couldn’t decided if I should hit the gym or not. I ultimately decided yes…gym time never hurts!

I’m so glad I went because I discovered a new (to me) part of the gym. We have a pretty big track upstairs that I’ve never used but I decided to do some walking lunges around it. So, I was lunging my buns off when I came across a little spot that was perfect: several sets of weight, bosu balls, weight bars, medicine balls, boxes-eveverything I might need and no one working out in there. It was kinda weird how excited I got. So, immediately my workout plans for the day were changed…here’s what I did instead:

  • Walking lunges around track-2 sets
  • Wall Balls– 15 reps 3 times with 10lb. medicine ball. I haven’t done these in forever!
  • Step Ups on Box– 10 reps on both legs 3 times holding 10lb. weights.

I started with the walking lunges, then went into the wall balls and step ups. I’ll be honest, I had some other exercises planned for my new workout space but I was suddenly invaded by a group of men (they always ruin it). Right around the time I was finishing up my last set of step-ups, about 7 firefighters walked over. So…as you may imagine, I started to feel a little out of place. It was clear they come over and workout, maybe set up stations? I kinda wanted to watch but I finished my step ups and lunged my way out.

I’m still pretty excited about this new space, just need to get there before the firemen do!

I finished up with another round of walking lunges and a couple more strength exercises:

  • Deadlifts– 3 sets of 15 with 12lb. weights.
  • Sumo Squat– 3 sets of 15 with 15lb. weight.

Not a bad day for being tired. It felt good to do some different lower body moves like the wall balls and step ups. The step ups in particular also get my heart pumping which is always good.

In other news, I’m heading to the Blend Retreat tomorrow and I can’t wait!!

I can’t wait to meet so many bloggers that I’ve been stalking reading this past year and a half.  It’s going to be a very active weekend filled with Bootcamps, yoga, hiking, and of course, eating! I’m also pretty excited to check out Boulder….who knows, maybe our next destination?

What’s your favorite lower body move?

So excited for you that you get to go to blend!!!! Have a blast, and nice work at the gym. What a fun new find. One lower body move I love are skaters — my booty is always always sore the next day!
