Protein Cereal

admin · September 7, 2011 · 6 Comments

I was stalking some blogs the other day when I came across a recipe on the Fitnessista’s blog for “cookie dough” cereal. Obviously, I’m all about cookie dough anything so I needed to make this immediately! Especially when I realized it’s actually pretty healthy for you and there’s technically not cookie dough involved…bummer.

It’s basically oats mixed with peanut butter (or any butter you’d like) and protein powder. The peanut butter lumps up in the cereal and mixed with chocolate protein powder is sort of cookie dough-esque. Anyway, here’s the recipe I used:

Chocolate Protein Oats

(adapted from the Fitnessista)

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1 tbsp. nut butter, I used chunky, natural pb
  • cinnamon to taste
  • sweetener to taste
  • 1/2 cup nonfat milk, or any milk you’d like
  • any additional toppings like fruit, nuts, etc.

First, I added the protein powder and mixed it up. Then I added the peanut butter which becomes a little more complicated. I used a fork and spoon to try and mix in the pb.

Love me some Muscle Milk.

I used Peanut Butter Co. natural chunky pb. I’m just thankful I didn’t have any Chocolate Dreams around….that would have made it much more like cookie dough!

mmm cookie dough..kinda

Next, I poured the milk over it and topped it with berries! I’ve added Stevia to it before and it was good, but honestly it was just as good without it. It might depend on your protein powder. I’ve also had this with almond butter and bananas and it’s pretty awesome! I just like the crunchiness of this peanut butter, it’s pretty tasty.

I think this is really good! I’ve had it after workouts too instead of a protein shake.  It’s filling, delicious, and easy to make!

Anyway, today is my day off which means it’s time to get productive! We’re going to Chicago this weekend for a wedding and of course, I have nothing to wear. Mission one is to find a dress. We have another wedding next weekend too so it’s totally worth it (is what I’m telling myself and my husband).

I think I’m going to check out Nordstrom Rack and TJ Maxx. I’ve actually never bought anything from either store but I’ve heard good things.

Have you had good luck at discount retailers?

I have absolute undying love and devotion for Nordstrom Rack; it is the BEST. TJ Maxx can be a little overwhelming and hit or miss, but if you’re willing to dig through a lot of meh, you’re likely to find a handful of fantastic.

Have fun! and those oats look delicious!

TjMaxx and Marshall’s are always super hit or miss with me. I either find everything I want or come up completely empty. However, you can definitely find some great deals if you are willing to treasure hunt–always a good thing!

Those look amazing! Have you tried Coach’s Oats? Before I went grain free they were my favorite.

Hope you find a pretty dress!

I like Mama Pea’s light recipe for balls as my favorite ‘cookie dough’ recipe. It’s so healthy and so much like real cookie dough!
